Ministry of Science and ICT Hosts AI Ethics and Trustworthiness Roundtable

Korea’s Ministry of Science and ICT held a site-based roundtable focused on AI ethics and trustworthiness at Genesislab. Chaired by Vice Minister Park Yun-gyu, the forum served as a follow-up to the National Council agenda item “Establishing a New Digital Order” and represented an effort to address the proliferation of large-scale generative AI models including ChatGPT.

At the roundtable, the ministry’s Min Dong-won, Director, announced policy progress including AI ethics standards development, creation of self-assessment checklists and developer guidance documents, and operation of ethics policy forums, along with future plans. Min Jung-wook, Center Director at KISDI (Korea Information Society Development Institute), shared practical application cases of the self-assessment checklist. Lee Kang-hae, Director of TTA (Korea Telecommunications Technology Association), presented technical requirements for developers in the guidance document and discussed adoption trends in public, healthcare, and autonomous vehicle sectors.

Corporate case presentations followed. Naver’s Song Dae-seop, Director, explained “Naver’s AI Ethics Principles.” Kim Yu-chul, Vice Director at LG AI Research, presented “LG’s AI Ethics Principles.” Genesislab CEO Lee Young-bok presented how the company has applied the developer guidance document to actual products.

Vice Minister Park concluded by emphasizing that securing AI ethics and trustworthiness across all stages, from technology development to deployment, directly determines corporate survival.
